Ethics and Law Enforcement
What is ethics for you as a sworn officer?
Ethical communication starts with understanding the core values for sworn law enforcement officers. Core values are communicated to each organization through training and a mandatory refresher course on an annual basis.
Core Values:
- Rigorous obedience to Constitutional Principles
- Fairness and compassion
- Personal integrity
- Respect for the dignity of all and recognition of human tendency to be corrupted
Renew your Oath of Honor through the Oath of Honor Campaign
International Association Chief of Police (IACP) realizes the impact of communicating the importance of ethics to the public by providing you, a sworn officer, with the opportunity to renew and refresh your standards through the oath of honor. The public respects and holds officers as role models and leaders of their community. Therefore, the credibility of law enforcement officers depends on how you fulfill your role in society. Through effective communication and high standard of ethics, a sworn officer will maintain the public trust in law enforcement.
